New Techniques in Dental Implant Healing

There have been great strides in dentistry over last few years. One of the most revolutionary field in dentistry is Oral Implantology, which deals with replacing one, few or all missing teeth. As many have found out replacing teeth can allow one to not only chew properly but improve his/her quality of life and allow for smiles to happen!

The concern can be seen in implant procedure, as with any surgery, one needs to weigh the pros vs cons of dental surgery. Not everyone is a candidate for dental implants but if you qualify, with a proper evaluation by a dental surgeon or oral surgeon, then you must see how you will heal in that surgery. At Crossroads Dental in Irvine, we like to give proper medications which will help in pre- and post-operative surgery.  There is another type of treatment if you qualify is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy.

Medications need to be properly evaluated and cross examined to make sure of no allergies or contraindications.  Antibiotics, corticosteroids, antibiotic mouth wash and proper pain medications help out with the common form of implant placements. Antibiotics control the infection along with antibiotic mouthwashes such as peridex. Corticosteriods prescribed are dexamethasone in small quantity for 3 days before and two days after the surgery. It is done so we can aid your body with controlling inflammation after surgery.

My next blog will go into detail about PRP treatments and how its revolutionized healing and bone stability.
